Book Beginnings & Friday 56 - #61

Book Beginnings on Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Gilion at Rose City Reader. Every Friday we share the first sentence (or so) of the book we’re currently reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

My Book Beginning:

Killer Christmas (An Emma Wild Holiday Mystery, Book 1) By Harper Lin

I’ve had people faint in my presence before, but never had one to drop dead at my feet – literally.

My Thoughts: I’ve never had anyone faint or drop dead in my presence, though I did come close to fainting once due to illness once.  I’m pretty sure I would not want anyone to literally drop dead in front of me. I'm trying to get into the holiday mood via book...lol

What do you think?  Don't forget to leave your book beginning below and to link-up at Rose City Reader.

Friday 56 is a weekly meme hosted by Freda at Freda’s Voice on every Friday.

To Play along here are the Rules:

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader (If you have to improvise, that's ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your post below.
*Don’t forget to add your post URL (not your blog url) at Freda’s Voice.
*It's that simple.

My 56 (Also from Killer Christmas by Harper Lin ):

“Do I have a gig for you,” he said. “A Middle Eastern prince wants to pay you half a million to sing at his birthday party next week.”
    “What? You’re joking.”
     “No joke. Completely serious.”

My Thoughts:  I would absolutely sing at the birthday party for half a million bucks as long as I was assured good security….lol.

So what do you think? Do the teasers tempt you? Would you read this?

About Killer Christmas (Emma Wild Holiday Mystery Series, Book 1)
by Harper Lin.

After breaking up with hunky movie star Nick Doyle, superstar singer Emma Wild returns to her hometown for Christmas to get away from it all. In Hartfield, a small town in Ontario, Canada, she gets caught up in a murder case after a fan's drink is poisoned at the Chocoholic Cafe, owned by Emma's sister Mirabelle.

Who is the killer and was the drink originally intended for Emma? To add to the chaos, Sterling Matthews is the detective on the case. He'd shattered her heart nine years ago and inspired all her hit singles, but now they must work together to find the murderer before the murderer finds Emma.

Includes Holiday Drink Recipes!

Don't forget to post your meme's and link up at both host locations.

Have a great Friday!

  5. This isn't the usual Christmas novel, but I think I'd like it. Cute cover. Cozy mysteries are so much fun!

  6. This sounds like a good one. I could do a Christmas book if it included a mystery. I am reading Enemy Games by Marcella Burnard from my TBR mountain this week. Happy reading!
