Book Beginnings & Friday 56 - #21

Book Beginnings on Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader . Every Friday we share the first sentence (or so) of the book we’re currently reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

My Book Beginning:

Flight from Death (Fly by Night, Book 1) by Yasmine Galenorn

Hurry Up, Damn It! Get a move on woman!” Alex shoved me toward the stairwell and shoved the door by shoving a wooden wedge beneath it, but that would only buy us a little time.

My Thoughts:  I will give Alex a pass on his behavior because obviously he is trying to save them from something – but otherwise Alex would be in hot water with me!  I’ve had this book on my kindle since it came out and I’m determined to read it over the weekend.

What do you think?  Don't forget to leave your book beginning below and to link-up at Rose City Reader .

Friday 56 is a weekly meme hosted by Freda’s Voice on every Friday.

To Play along here are the Rules:

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader (If you have to improvise, that's ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your post below.
*Don’t forget to add your post URL (not your blog url) at Freda’s Voice.
*It's that simple.

My 56:

Also from Flight from Death (Fly by Night, Book 1) by Yasmine Galenorn

“Unfortunately, I really can’t wait.  I have to question someone about a burglary investigation.  I’ll tell you, and you can tell Patrick.  The inspector found a frayed wire in the wall that led to the fire.  Nothing suspicious about it – just…old house, old wiring.”

My Thoughts:  Well, this really doesn’t tell me much about what’s going on, other than there was a fire at an old house.  I guess I’ll really have to read the book to find out what’s going on…lol

What do you think?  Does this sound interesting to you?  Have you read this?

About Flight from Death (Fly by Night, Book 1) by Yasmine Galenorn

From New York Times bestselling author Yasmine Galenorn comes an all-new series set in the realm of her Otherworld novels.

I’m Shimmer, a blue dragon shifter. Thanks to a mistake, I was exiled from the Dragon Reaches and sentenced to work for Alex Radcliffe, a vampire who owns the Fly by Night Magical Investigations Agency. Now, not only do I have to adapt to Earthside culture, but every time I turn around, somebody’s trying to kill us. And worse, Alex is as gorgeous as he is exasperating. But you know what they say: All’s fair in love and bounty hunting…

When an old friend of Alex contacts him about a haunting at the High Tide Bed & Breakfast in Port Townsend, Washington, we think we’re on a simple ghost hunt. But our investigation quickly transforms into a deadly fight as we uncover an eighty-year-old murder, a cursed house, and a dark force trapping the spirits within. To stop impending disaster we must break the curse and lay the angry spirits to rest.

Don't forget to post your meme's and link up at both host locations.

Have a great Friday!

  1. I do wonder what is going on that would buy them some time. But the beginning seems so harsh I am sure I wouldn't pick it.

  2. I'm wondering why the author used the word "shove" three times instead of varying it. Seems like an editor should have caught that. That makes me wonder if the rest of the book is edited well.
I do like the 56 excerpt.

  5. I can't decide whether or not I would be able to get into this one. This guy likes to shove, which kind of made me laugh for some reason! Great post! My Friday Post: http://www.collegiatecatlady.com/book-beginnings-the-friday-56/

  8. Hi Maria,

Not a genre I read either, I'm afraid.

I am assuming that there has been a fire at the old house, so I am wondering if anyone has been injured?

I too, picked up on the repetitive use of certain words, however the ratings and reviews have overall been very good and I couldn't find comments from anyone who shared my observations, so perhaps things got better once the book got started.

Thanks for sharing and enjoy your weekend of reading the book :)
