About the book:
Dreams of a powerful, black-armored knight resolve into sweet
salvation for the captive lady of Brezden Keep—and true love.
“I WILL NOT MAKE A GOOD
HUSBAND FOR YOU.”
Such was the warning of Lady Catheryn’s husband-to-be, the powerful warrior who dispatched her dishonorable guardian, unknowingly answering both her prayers and nocturnal visions. And he seemed right. His past was too bleak, his nature too violent.
But Baron Gerard also promised to never beat her, to be kind, to
care for Brezden Keep and her people, and the spark in his eye was not kindled
by bloodlust alone. His strong hands could be gentle and build fires in her. So
perhaps the witch and her magic sachet had the right of it. Perhaps Gerard of
Reveur was not only a protector but a better husband and a truer love than
either of their tortured souls could ever imagine.
ExcerptCatheryn took a deep breath. “How long will such a memory be enough?”
He paused. “What are you asking?”
“In the days since we have been married, we have shared a bed only one of those nights.”
Ah. Gerard knew now where her thoughts strayed, but he wanted them voiced. Here and now. “And?”
She inhaled loudly before asking in a rush, “How many of those nights have you sought your bed alone?”
If he laughed, she would never forgive him. If he raged, she would think him guilty. As her master and lord of their household, what she thought should not matter to him, but oddly enough it did. Even though he’d known her less than a month, her thoughts did matter to him. A great deal.
Turning her around, he grasped her wrist and placed her hand against his chest. “As long as my heart beats, I will be true to you. I swore a vow that I have not yet broken and will not break as long as I live.” He held her startled gaze and lifted her palm to his lips for a kiss. “The vow is sealed.” He closed her fingers over her palm. “Hold this sealed vow in your hand for as long as your heart desires. Always remember that no matter what your eyes may show you or what your ears may hear, that what I have told you and shown you in this chamber tonight is the truth.”
