FBI analyst Kassidy Bishop is assigned to the “For You” killer’s task force after a series of sadistic murders bearing the same signature arise in different parts of the country.
The homicides are both calculated and savage, occurring in different states, but bearing the same signature: the words “for you” scribbled at each crime scene. The case chills Kassidy, bringing back memories of her own encounter with a violent criminal five years earlier.
Kassidy’s mentor, legendary agent Talia “The Confessor” Crossen knows the task force assignment is Kassidy’s chance to prove to her colleagues that she belongs in the Behavior Analysis Unit. For five years, other FBI agents and profilers scoffed at Kassidy’s appointment to the BAU, believing she was only offered the position in exchange for her silence about the brutal assault that almost killed her.
The stakes rise when the task force links the killer’s signature to Kassidy. As more and more bodies turn up, Kassidy must delve into her past and the mysterious death of her twin sister, which holds the key to uncovering the killer’s identity.
The closer Kassidy comes to finding the killer, the closer she comes to a deadly confrontation that could cost her everything—including her own life.
My Review
A damaged FBI agent and a killer with dissociative identity disorder take center stage in Lisa Regan’s psychological thriller, Aberration. Well developed characters, two principal points of view, good dialogue and plenty of action kept me turning the pages to discover what was going to happen next. If you’re like me, and live for new seasons of favorite crime and psychological dramas on TV, then this is the book for you!
Assigned to the “For You Killer” task force, FBI analyst Kassidy Bishop knows there are members of her team who doubt her abilities. A victim of a serious crime herself, Kassidy knows she’s not quite the agent she used to be. She also knows she’s still more than capable of doing her job. Unfortunately, she’ll also have to deal with her suddenly out of control personal life and deal with the fall out when it becomes apparent the killer has ties to her past.
Ms. Regan does a wonderful job developing Kassidy’s character from the very first pages. We’re given Kassidy’s story from her own point of view as she becomes a victim, recovers from her injuries and then joins the Behavioral Analysis Unit at the FBI. An attractive, intelligent woman, Kassidy is determined to rise above her own experiences and rescue others from danger. While no one understands the methodical “For You Killer”, Kassidy and her partner are able to work up a psychological profile to help track him down, at least until the he changes his style and methods.
Providing us with the point of view of “Wyatt”, the killer, Ms. Regan introduces us to a character who’s much more than he seems at first. His point of view is actually pivotal in understanding the woman Kassidy has become today – he’s partly responsible for what she’s become. While his actions are evil, his ultimate goal is understandable and I have to admit that there were times while reading the book where I actually felt a little bit of sorrow about what he’s gone through and who he’s become.
Will Kassidy identify who the killer really is in time to save herself and her future? Will she lose any loved ones along the way? You’ll have to read Aberration to find out, I loved it and can’t recommend it highly enough. I can’t wait to read Ms. Regan’s other book, Finding Claire Fletcher, which I just happen to have on my kindle too!
