Book Beginning & Friday 56 -#42

Book Beginnings on Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader. Every Friday we share the first sentence (or so) of the book we’re currently reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

My Book Beginning:

Impossible (Impossible, Book 1) by Nancy Werlin

On the evening of Lucy Scarborough’s seventh birthday, after the biggest party the neighborhood had ever seen since, well Lucy’s sixth birthday, Lucy gone one last unexpected gift.  It was a handwritten letter from her mother – her real mother, Miranda.

My Thoughts:  I’m happy it was a great party but on the downside unexpected gifts can be tricky things to receive and since this is a 21st Century fairytale – it could be dangerous.  My sister recently recommended this book to me and it was on sale when I got my Kindle copy- I liked the idea of a book being based on a folk song.

What do you think?  Don't forget to leave your book beginning below and to link-up at Rose City Reader.

Friday 56 is a weekly meme hosted by Freda’s Voice on every Friday.

To Play along here are the Rules:

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader (If you have to improvise, that's ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your post below.
*Don’t forget to add your post URL (not your blog url) at Freda’s Voice.
*It's that simple.

My 56 (Also from Impossible – 56% on KindleVerion)

“I see several prongs of attack for us,” Leo was saying, “and most of them involve research we have to do. The first is the most basic and obvious. Geneological. I want to research Lucy’s family line. Let’s see if we can find birth records for Miranda, and for Miranda’s mother and grandmother – as far back as we can. Maybe even as far as Fenella – let’s call her Fenella Scarborough. Though I doubt we’ll get anywhere near her, I don’t think the records will go back more than a few generations. And let’s also look for medical records.”

My Thoughts:  Leo is definitely thinking about things in a clear, logical and even scientific way.  Not sure what exactly is going on at this point in the story but I think I like his character already.

What do you think?  Keep Reading?  What do you think of the 2 different covers? The blue one with my book beginning is the original hardcover and the one below with the description is the new paperback/kindle cover.  I personally like the new cover best.  Don’t forget to link up at Freda’s Voice.

About Impossible (Impossible, Book 1) by Nancy Werlin

Lucy is seventeen when she discovers that she is the latest recipient of a generations-old family curse that requires her to complete three seemingly impossible tasks or risk falling into madness and passing the curse on to the next generation. Unlike her ancestors, though, Lucy has family, friends, and other modern resources to help her out. But will it be enough to conquer this age-old evil?

A beautifully wrought modern fairy tale from master storyteller and award-winning author Nancy Werlin. Inspired by the classic folk ballad "Scarborough Fair," this is a wonderfully riveting and haunting novel of suspense, romance, and fantasy.

Don't forget to post your meme's and link up at both host locations.

Have a great Friday!
