Chick lit
meets spy thriller!

Charlotte Dodd is having a bad day.
After taking an experimental drug to erase her memories of saving the world (or at least the country - several times) Charlotte is given a new life - a quiet, unassuming job, a second chance at love with Luke, and no one trying to kill her.
Two years
later and with no recollection of saving the world, she steps in to help a
random stranger and is amazed at the ease in which she dispatches her opponents
using a rolled-up magazine. But how is that possible? She has Buffy-like fight
moves, fires a gun with deadly accuracy and can use the air from car tires to
keep breathing underwater.
When she
meets Ham - why is he so familiar? The flashes, the déjà vu, the dreams -
they’re not really dreams? Blowing up a building in Mexico, being buried alive
- those things really happened to her? And what is her brother doing flying a
plane? Turns out those two years of quiet with Luke was really an undercover
mission to help bring down a secret organization targeting her
family.
Charlotte needs
to remember her secret life if she wants to save the world again
and the only man she’s ever loved.

Like adrenaline filled-action packed drama? Then look no further than The Secret Life of Charlotte Dodd by Holly Kerr. A genre bending combination of chick lit, romantic comedy and action suspense, Ms. Kerr’s story starts out fast and never slows down. Quirky characters, lots of pop culture references and an interesting mystery kept me turning the pages from start to finish. If you like lots of action and spy drama then this is a book you’ll want to check out.I really liked the character of Charlotte “Charlie” Dodd; she’s feisty, creative, petite and either extremely brave or foolhardy. What begins as a night at the movies to see one of the Mission Impossible movies quickly turns into an evening Sydney Bristow from the TV show Alias would have been proud to be a part of. Using her 109 pounds, her “Le Club” anti-theft device and the element of surprise, Charlie quickly becomes involved in trying to save “Benjy” from some Russian mobsters. She made me smile with her sense of adventure, her determination to do the right thing and her never ending sarcasm and gift of gab. She totally cracked me up.The mystery of who Benjy is, why he was by her car when she came out of the movies and how she knows how to shoot a gun, fight bad men and pretty much act like a member of the Mission Impossible team is intriguing and entertaining. The secondary characters are colorful, I really liked Benjy, and all of them contribute something to Charlie’s story. After all, Charlie has to figure out who she really is and why her boyfriend of two years might have been a mark and not really the man she wants to spend the rest of her life with. The pace is quick, Ms. Kerr’s “voice” as an author is easy to follow and enjoyable. My only complaint would be about how quickly the action begins at the beginning – perhaps a little longer introduction into who Charlie thinks she is might have helped. Will Benjy help Charlie discover about her past? The past she’s somehow forgotten? And will her “family” or her “team” be able to help her when she needs it the most? You’ll have to read The Secret Life of Charlotte Dodd to find out. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of Ms. Kerr’s work.My Rating: 4 out of 5
