Book Beginnings & Friday 56 - #5

Book Beginnings on Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader. Every Friday we share the first sentence (or so) of the book we’re currently reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

My Book Beginning:

Criminal Confections (A Chocolate Whisperer Mystery, #1) by Colette London

You probably already know not to eat French fries with your fingers in Chile, not to shake hands across a threshold in Russia, and to sit in the back seat of a taxi (never up front with the driver) if you’re a woman traveling solo in Costa Rica.  But you might not know that ordinary chocolate contains over 500 unique flavor components – more than twice that of vanilla or strawberry.

My Thoughts:  Definitely going to learn about this character’s travel history and about what makes chocolate taste so unique.

What do you think?  Don't forget to leave your book beginning below and to link-up at Rose City Reader.

Friday 56 is a weekly meme hosted by Freda’s Voice on every Friday.

To Play along here are the Rules:

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader (If you have to improvise, that's ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your post below.
*Don’t forget to add your post URL (not your blog url) at Freda’s Voice.
*It's that simple.

My 56 (Also from Criminal Confections):

Far across the grounds, the Golden Gate Bridge arched over the water.  Its cables and wires were illuminated to highlight its Art Deco features and famous International Orange paint color.  The air smelled sweet with chocolate and redolent with flowers.  It was warm.  I was secure with Danny beside me.

About Criminal Confections by Colette London

Hayden Mundy Moore is an expert on everything chocolate, helping clients develop new products and revamp recipes until they're irresistible. But sometimes, a dash of murder finds its way into the mix. . .

Hayden Mundy Moore has bushwhacked through African jungles and haggled in exotic markets to find the finest cacao beans and the most flavorful blends. It's thrilling work but rarely dangerous--until a colleague turns up dead at the exclusive chocolate-themed Lemaître resort spa in San Francisco.

Adrienne Dowling's heart attack is blamed on an accidental overdose of the secret ingredient used in Lemaître Chocolates' new line. Hayden can't believe that conscientious Adrienne would make that mistake. And between chocolate body scrubs, cocoa mud baths, and a non-stop frenzy of chocolate-based treats, Hayden starts to suspect that she, not Adrienne, was the intended target. Finding a killer among the rival chocolatiers and potential suspects won't just be satisfying--it might save her life. . .

Don't forget to post your meme's and link up at both host locations.

Have a great Friday!

  1. I haven't picked up this series (so many books so little time), but the fact that this is set in San Francisco appeals to me for sure.

  3. I really enjoyed this one as well as the second one that came out a few weeks ago! In fact, I used the second one for a Book Beginnings/Friday 56 post back in August (http://wellreadpiratequeen.blogspot.com/2015/08/colette-london-dangerously-dark.html). The book I'm using this week is also set in San Francisco but is pretty much totally different since it has vampires ;)

  11. Love the opening -- I didn't know any of those things! Could there really be such a thing as a chocolate-themed resort spa? I want to go there right now! Thanks for sharing, and thanks for stopping by my blog.
