The Sheik's Ruby by Whitney Award Winning Author Jennifer Moore
Shelby wants to break away from the mold of her small town and make a name for herself in the big-city journalism world. While skiing, she meets mysterious stranger Hakim who is actually the prince of the Middle Eastern kingdom of Khali-dar. When his enemies learn of Hakim’s connection to an American girl, they target Shelby.
Fleeing to the safety of Khali-dar, Shelby falls deeper in love not only with the prince, but with his country. As she struggles to survive terrorist attacks, withstand the Sheik’s prejudice, and find her place in a world she doesn’t understand, she must choose which life she is willing to sacrifice—the comfortable one she has worked so hard to create, or the one with the man she loves.
EXCERPT
“Does your father know you’re asking me?”
Hakim gazed over her shoulder and took a deep breath. “He knows.”
“But he doesn’t want me to come, right?”
“I will bring a companion of my choice tomorrow.” He locked his gaze onto Shelby’s and leaned toward her. “You are my choice. Will you please come?”
The Sheik apparently doesn’t buy into the whole “guests are gifts from Allah” idea.
“Of course, I would love to come.” She smiled, but knew it didn’t appear convincing. She hated feeling like she was the source of their discord.
“You are nervous. Please do not feel uncomfortable.”
“I’m worried I’ll say or do something stupid.” She winced. “I’m not exactly a refined debutante who knows how to act in formal situations. I don’t want to embarrass you, Hakim.”
“I do not want you to be a refined debutante. I have spent enough time with those people to know they are not what I want.”
Hakim maneuvered his horse until he faced Shelby and their legs were nearly touching. He leaned closer, his gaze earnest. “What I want is you, Shelby Jo.” He cupped her cheek in his hand.
Shelby felt her heart flutter and her nerve endings tingle as she lost herself in the deep brown pools of his eyes. His thumb stroked her skin, leaving a trail of heat in its wake. He slid his hand into her hair and drew her closer, his lips covering hers. When she drew away, Shelby inhaled deeply and grinned.
“Hearing you put it that way, how could I possibly refuse?”

FTC Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book as a part of a book tour for a fair and honest review. My opinion was not influenced by anything other than the reading material provided.
A contemporary romance set in both the U.S. and a fictional Middle Eastern country, The Sheik’s Ruby by Jennifer Moore is like a tall glass of water on a hot summer day. Filled with colorful characters, drama, mystery, and an almost fairy tale like romance, Ms. Moore’s book reminded me of why I enjoy reading romantic suspense. If you want a taste of adventure in the desert, a clean romance and a touch of suspense, then this is the book for you.Ms. Moore does an excellent job introducing Shelby and Hakim to both each other, and the reader right from the start. Meeting at the top of an almost deserted ski mountain gives them a chance to meet and get to know each other without the pressure of Hakim’s political and social position getting in the way. They meet as two equals, challenge each other as skiers and get to know each other as friends. While it’s clear, because of his ski equipment and wardrobe, that Hakim has money, Shelby’s skill on the slopes, her open and frank nature and her outgoing friendship, impress Hakim and allow him to enjoy a whole day with her, especially since it’s clear she’s clueless that he’s a prince who will soon become the ruler of his small nation. While Hakim’s upbringing was much more formal, and his position requires a certain amount of restraint, Hakim is intelligent, adventuresome and very handsome; which of course make him irresistible. The secondary characters are also well developed and I especially enjoyed watching both Shelby and Hakim interact with them. Especially when Hakim and Shelby’s attraction and potential relationship was not always readily accepted. Hakim’s father, “The Sheik”, and his head of security, Nasir, were both intriguing characters I enjoyed getting to know better. The suspense, by way of terrorism and possible threats to Shelby’s safety because of her relationship with Hakim, was well paced, filled with action and just the right amount of tension. I found both Shelby and Hakim’s attitudes towards life very important – especially since there were serious issues they would have to work out to have a serious – forever type- relationship. Will Shelby and Hakim be able to work through the differences in their upbringing and culture to form a lasting relationship? Will Hakim, and his people, be able to keep Shelby safe from terrorists who are determined to be a threat? Will Hakim’s father, The Sheik, learn to love Shelby for who she is and accept her in his son’s life? You’ll have to read The Sheik’s Ruby to find out, I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of Ms. Moore’s work.
Thank you for such a great review!!
