Book Beginnings & Friday 56 - #36

Book Beginnings on Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Gilion at Rose City Reader. Every Friday we share the first sentence (or so) of the book we’re currently reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

My Book Beginning:

Fortified Dreams (Dreams & Reality, Book 11) by Hadena James

It was hard to be a criminal mastermind.  There were so many things to take into account, not to mention all the planning.  If he had been lazy, none of this would be coming together.

My Thoughts:  It always amazes me that criminals do so much introspection – it’s like they are constantly patting themselves on the back – and they usually get caught too…lol

What do you think?  Don't forget to leave your book beginning below and to link-up at Rose City Reader.

Friday 56 is a weekly meme hosted by Freda at Freda’s Voice on every Friday.

To Play along here are the Rules:

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader (If you have to improvise, that's ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your post below.
*Don’t forget to add your post URL (not your blog url) at Freda’s Voice.
*It's that simple.

My 56 (also from Fortified Dreams by Hadena James)

“She’s why you can’t kill anyone, isn’t she?” Bella looked at me.
“Not really.  She is just in charge of reminding me not to do it.” I told her.  “We have not been formally introduced.  Aislinn Cain.” I stuck my hand out to the inmate that had chopped up her sister’s fiancĂ©.

My Thoughts:  In this part of the story, Aislinn has just me Isabella Stewart, one of her partner’s sister, who happens to be an inmate at The Fortress prison.  As usual, Aislinn would just like to shoot and ask questions later…lol.

About Fortified Dreams (Dreams & Reality, Book 11) by Hadena James

There is a conspiracy afoot, one involving some of the most dangerous people on the planet. A network of organized serial killers exists; Aislinn Cain and the SCTU have found evidence of it. Yet, they have very few leads.

Until the serial killers go on the offensive and Aislinn Cain wakes up to find herself living her worst fears. They have stormed the Federal Offices where Nyleena Clachan works and staged an uprising within the serial killer prison, The Fortress.

To bring an end to this madness and find out who is behind it all, sacrifices will have to be made. The costs will be high as Aislinn and the team go up against some of the baddest serial killers that exist.

  2. This looks interesting! It's always bizarre listening to interviews of really horrible criminals. There's always so much rationalizing and patting themselves on the back. I'll have to look for this one. That's quite a 56!

  6. Hi Maria,

Most killers seem to be able to rationalise their actions, as if they were an everyday occurence and perfectly normal ... I guess to them, they are!

This book probably isn't one for me, simply because I rarely read fantasy stories. However I did enjoy both your excerpts and I love the cover art of the book. I'll bet that Hadena could write a really good 'straight' murder / mystery, if she put her mind to it.

Thanks for sharing and enjoy your weekend :)
