Book Description:
It’s late in the Cold War, and the Soviet Union is slowly disintegrating.
In the midst of this uncertainty and upheaval, a mysterious group of KGB officials has concocted a desperate plan in an attempt to maintain power.
And one beautiful young CIA operative is all that stands between this shadowy cabal and the outbreak of World War Three.
Spring, 1987. CIA Special Operations agent Tracie Tanner is tasked with what should be a relatively straightforward mission: deliver a secret communique from Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev to U.S. President Ronald Reagan.
After smuggling the document out of East Germany, Tracie believes she is in the clear. She’s wrong. There are shadowy forces at work, influential people who will stop at nothing to prevent the explosive information contained in the letter from reaching the White House.
Soon, Tanner is knee-deep in airplane crashes and murder, paired up with a young Maine air traffic controller and on the run for their lives, unsure who she can trust at CIA, but committed to completing her mission, no matter the cost.

My ReviewA suspenseful thriller set at the end of Ronald Reagan’s second term as President, Parallax View by Allan Leverone is a thrill ride guaranteed to entertain anyone who loves a good spy novel. Well developed characters, good dialogue and non-stop action, kept me turning the pages to discover what was going to happen next. If you’re as old as I am you’ll remember the political climate during which this story is set and feel as if this story is real.Twenty-seven year old Tracie Tanner works as an operative for the CIA. Sent to East Germany by her handler, Tracie’s mission is to bring a Top Secret communique written by Russian president Gorbachev to the White House and deliver it personally to President Reagan. Prepared to carry out her assignment, Tracie is unaware of the people, on both sides of the Iron Curtain, who will do anything to prevent her from carrying out her mission. When people assigned to help her complete her mission start dying around her, Tracie realizes she’s in trouble and is going to need help. Will she be able to trust Shane Rowley, the air traffic controller who conveniently offers to help?Mr. Leverone does an excellent job developing Tracie’s character throughout the story and places her in believable and exciting situations. While the story is rapidly paced, Mr. Leverone’s writing style is smooth and easy to follow. Adding a light romance and some sexual tension between Tracie and Shane, Mr. Leverone adds yet another layer to his story. While a lot of thrillers are written with male readers as a target audience, this is not one of those books. This is easily a book a woman or a man could easily enjoy. Will Tracie fulfill her mission and make it to the White House with Gorbachev’s letter? Will the blooming romance between Tracie and Shane turn into something more? You’ll have to read Parallax View to find out. I enjoyed it and I look forward to reading more of Mr. Leverone’s work.My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Crowns
