From the Publisher:

When mild-mannered Casey Schwartz wakes up in jail, she has no memory of how she got there. But after her sister, Wanda, bails her out, Casey has more to deal with than a foggy memory-like abrupt mood swings and fireballs shooting from her fingertips. But things really head south when a vampire shows up on her doorstep...

Vampire Clayton Gunnersson is seriously hot. And seriously taken-by a demon. In a ritual gone wrong, Clayton tried to get rid of his unwanted bond, but spilled some demonic blood on Casey, getting her possessed in the process. Now, Casey has to share her body and manage to keep her growing attraction to Clayton in check, because falling for her demon's boyfriend just might get Casey killed-from the inside out.

My Review:

This is the 4th book in the "Accidental" series and I have enjoyed each book.  The heroine of this book is Casey Schwartz, the half sister of Wanda Schwartz, who was the hero of book 3 titled "The Accidental Human".    The book begins with a phone call from Casey to Wanda that is very funny.  You find out that Casey is in jail for having assaulted an off duty police officer and she is basically begging Wanda to come and bail her out of jail.  You discover that they don't have a very close relationship, which is mostly Casey's fault as she took a job that has gone wrong in many ways.  Casey is a young shy woman who hasn't had time for any relationships, she hasn't had time for her family or even for men in her life.   Of course Wanda was not alone when she answered Casey's call, she is accompanied by both Marty, the heroine of book 1 "The Accidental Werewolf" and by Nina, the heroine of book 2 "Accidentally Dead".  Both of these ladies are as funny and endearing as ever.

Turns out that while in a bar taking care of her "charges", Casey accidentally bumped into Clayton Gunnerson, a vampire, who was carrying a vial of special blood.  Turns out it was a special demon's blood that he needed for his own reasons, which he is not sharing, at least not at first.  Clayton is described as a hottie and Casey soon finds herself very attracted to Clayton.  She also finds herself doing all sorts of things that she wasn't expecting, like levitating and growing tiny horns.  When she gets angry, which happens quite alot, she can also shoot fireworks out of her fingertips and in fact starts several things on fire, one being Nina's hair.  Both Clayton and Wanda decide that Casey needs their help in adjusting to her new paranormal lifestyle and the challenges that it brings, so they temporarily move in with Casey to oversee her :"adjustment".

As often happens in paranormal romance, the path is never straight nor easy.  Turns out that Clay has an "arranged marriage" that has kept him alive (in Ms. Cassidy's Vampire world, when a vampire reaches the age of 500 he must take a mate or turn to dust).  This is the unholy bond that he was procuring the demon blood for.  The rest of the book deals with Casey learning to deal with her new paranormal existence and also with working out a real relationship with Clayton.  We also find out who supplied the special demon blood and Casey gets a few new tricks that help her in the end.

There is a happy ending for the book and amazingly no one dies but all of the issues are resolved.  Part of what I like about this series is the fantastic dialogue that Ms. Cassidy gives to her characters.  They hold nothing back.  They are snarky and sarcastic, but a barrel of fun.  The language is defintely adult though, not for small children.  I definitely recommend this to anyone who likes smart, snazzy dialogue with their paranormal romance.  It's a hoot!

My Rating:  5 out of 5 Crowns
