Book Beginnings & Friday 56 - #73

Book Beginnings on Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Gilion at Rose City Reader. Every Friday we share the first sentence (or so) of the book we’re currently reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

My Book Beginning:

Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels, Book 7) by Ilona Andrews

"Kate, this is really dangeous," Ascanio said.

My Thoughts:  I have loved this series since I began reading it years ago and fell behind on th books so I decided to get caught up before the next one comes out.  The beginning doesn't really tell us a lot - though people who follow this series know that Kate always seems to find danger, or it finds her, and that Ascanio is another trouble magnet.....lol

What do you think?  Don't forget to leave your book beginning below and to link-up at Rose City Reader.

Friday 56 is a weekly meme hosted by Freda at Freda’s Voice on every Friday.

To Play along here are the Rules:

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader (If you have to improvise, that's ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your post below.
*Don’t forget to add your post URL (not your blog url) at Freda’s Voice.
*It's that simple.

My 56 (Also from Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels, Book 7) by Ilona Andrews - about 56% on Kindle)

“I would have mourned him with his mother," Robert said. " I would've felt terrible and grieved.  But I would've let d'Ambray kill him.  He's just one of the Pack's children. Your'e the Consort. If you had let yourself be taken by d'Ambray, we would've been leaderless.  I would have to go to the pack with the news that d'Ambray had captured you and they would have marched on the Casino to save you or retaliate.  It would be a bloodbath. So as painful as it is, I would've let Ascanio die."

My Thoughts:  I haven’t gotten this far in the book yet and even though what he says sounds absolutely horrible - it would be much, much worse if Kate had been taken by d'Ambray for the 1500 shapeshifters/people the Pack represents.  So it's one of those sacrifice the one for the many type scenarios.

So what do you think?  Do the teaser’s tempt you?  Don’t forget to leave your 56 and link up at Freda’s Voice

About Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels, Book 7) by Ilona Andrews

No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…

As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.

As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear…

Don't forget to post your meme's and link up at both host locations.

Have a great Friday!
