Book Beginnings & Friday 56 - #51

Book Beginnings on Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Gilion at Rose City Reader. Every Friday we share the first sentence (or so) of the book we’re currently reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

My Book Beginning:

Fatal Mistake (Fatal Series, Book 6) by Marie Force

This, Nick Cappuano THOUGHT, is as good as it gets- a cool, crisp autumn night at the ballpark with all of his favorite people and the hometown D.C. Federals cruising towards a spot in their first-ever World Series.  Going into the top of the ninth inning, the Feds were up by two to one with three outs standing between them and the show.

My Thoughts:  Pretty good beginning – I happen to be a baseball fan and follow our local team so I know exactly how he feels.  Since this is a romantic suspense as well as a police procedural series – I know someone is going to get killed eventually but so far murder is the last thing happening.

What do you think?  Don't forget to leave your book beginning below and to link-up at Rose City Reader.

*It's that simple.

My 56 Also from Fatal Mistake (Fatal Series, Book 6) by Marie Force – About 56% on Kindle:

He seemed taken aback by the news.  “Why, I met with him yesterday and didn’t pick up the murderer vibe at all.  He’s alibied up he wazoo too.  He was at the ballpark until five in the morning after the game”
“That’s after our estimated time of death, but he’s also in debt up the wazoo,” Sam said, handing him the printout of Collins’ financials.

My Thoughts: Well, now we know someone was killed and that they are looking for the murderer.  I’m not sure that there is a “murderer” vibe but it sounds like maybe the cop who did the first interview missed something.  This is a series I’ve a on my Kindle for a while and I’m just now getting back to it and looking forward to catching up on the books.

So what do you think? Is this a book you would keep reading? Don't forget to link up at Freda's Voice.

About Fatal Mistake (Fatal, Book 6) by Marie Force

A critical error.

A Cinderella season cut short.

A star player murdered.

DC is recovering from angry riots after one player's mistake blew the DC Federals' chance at the World Series, and Lieutenant Sam Holland is determined to unravel the twisted web of motives behind the star center fielder's death. Was it a disgruntled fan, a spurned lover or a furious teammate?

While Sam digs through clues, her husband, US Senator Nick Cappuano, fights for his political life in the final days of his reelection campaign as financial irregularities threaten his future. It's a distraction Nick can ill afford with Sam in the midst of another high-profile murder investigation and both of them trying to help their adopted son, Scotty, cope with the murder of a ballplayer he admired.

Determined to bring the killer to justice, Sam must root out the truth before another mistake proves fatal.

  1. This sounds like a good mystery. I do like sports. So, I really like how the author chose to begin the book. The opening lines are great!

  2. Books where the characters are cops are hit and miss for me, but I do love a good mystery/crime solving novel!

  8. Now this is a good weekend read. I honestly think that all the "good" murderers don't send out murdery vibes - that's what makes them so good! Hope you have fun reading this one!
