Book Beginnings & Friday 56 - #41

Book Beginnings on Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader. Every Friday we share the first sentence (or so) of the book we’re currently reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

My Book Beginning:

Flash (Dogled Island Mystery, Book 1) by Donna Ball

If the call had come four minutes later, Aggie would have missed it.  This close to end of shift, no one would have blamed her had she ignored it and headed on in, and in fact she considered doing just that.

My Thoughts:  While I’m not a first responder, I do know what it is to be dog tired (pun intended) and get a last minute call as you are just getting ready to leave.  It’s usually not a good call either…lol

What do you think?  Don't forget to leave your book beginning below and to link-up at Rose City Reader.

Friday 56 is a weekly meme hosted by Freda’s Voice on every Friday.

To Play along here are the Rules:

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader (If you have to improvise, that's ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your post below.
*Don’t forget to add your post URL (not your blog url) at Freda’s Voice.
*It's that simple.

My 56 (Also from Flash):

Briggs dispatched the lawyer, the two deputies, and Peters, then turned to Grady.  Bishop had to admire the efficiency with which he handled that.
“I’ve been fielding a call a minute about that knife,” Briggs told Grady.  “We’ve got a fingerprint tech standing by downstairs.”

My Thoughts:  You have to love a competent individual who can multitask and now we know that a knife is somehow involved in this mystery.

So what do you think of the cover?

About Flash (Dogled Island Mystery, Book 1) by Donna Ball

The first in a powerful new series from the author of THE RAINE STOCKTON DOG MYSTERIES...
Almost two years ago the sleepy little community of Dogleg Island was the scene of one of the most brutal crimes in Florida history. The only eye witnesses were a border collie puppy and a police officer. Since that time Flash has grown from a puppy into a vital part of the Dogleg Island Police Department, and has lived happily with the two people who rescued him on that horrible night: Deputy Sheriff Ryan Grady and Police Chief Aggie Malone.

Now the trial of the century is about to begin. The defendant, accused of slaughtering his parents in their beach home, maintains his innocence. Aggie and Ryan, the top witnesses for the prosecution, are convinced he is lying. But only Flash knows the truth.

And with another murder to solve, a tangle of conflicting evidence to sort out, and a brutal storm on the way, the truth may come too late... for all of them.

Don't forget to post your meme's and link up at both host locations.

Have a great Friday!

  4. I love books that include dogs in the plot! It's fun to see how they contribute to the action, and the way the characters react to them tells us a lot about that person. I'll be looking for this series.
My Friday post features THE REVENANT.

  6. That is a different angle. I wonder if Flash will somehow 'give' his evidence!
