Jason
Crawford has dedicated his life to fighting the mysterious alien race which

EXCERPTLinda stared at the phone for a moment, then got up and paced around the living room. She stopped by the huge picture window, where a small brass telescope stood mounted to the floor. Linda brushed absently at the dust that had accumulated on the brass tube, smiling sadly as she recalled her husband's reaction to this addition to the home's decor. Though he had always tried to respect, or at least tolerate his wife's beliefs as an Earther, he had often struggled to understand the rituals associated with her faith, shaking his head and sighing as she pointed her little telescope towards the dim point in the sky which most Earthers believed to be the birthplace of the human race. The fact that no definitive evidence remained of the exact location, nor even the existence of Earth did not deter her in the least. She believed she was looking at Earth, and that was good enough for her.Of course she wasn't able to see much of anything anymore, what with the shields now glowing as they did every single night …

DeleteIs there anything you find particularly challenging in writing this book?
ReplyDeleteOne of the most challenging things about writing is finding ways around problematic parts of the plot. Sometimes you're happily writing away and suddenly realize that what you've just written doesn't make sense with something else you've written earlier. At that point you've really got to work on figuring out a plausible way to link the parts together, or else rewrite one of the parts to make the whole thing work.

ReplyDeleteDo you write every day? Do you have a word goal for each day you write?
ReplyDeleteI tend to write in blocks, where I write often for several days in a row, and then not at all for a while. I don't have a word goal either. I basically go by feel; if things are going well I keep at it until I feel I'm done for the day. If things just don't seem to be happening, I'll walk away and come back another day with a fresh brain. Even when I'm not writing, however, I'm often thinking of the story and getting ideas that charge me up for my next writing session.
