Exclusive Excerpt

Then he moaned. I stood over him. When he moaned again, I looked around to make sure no one else was there. I mean I had been slow up to this point, and now that I knew he wasn't dead I could make sure the killer wasn't nearby waiting for me to lean down.

Adam moaned, and I put my hands on his chest. His eyes popped open. His chest rose under my hands and for a moment it sounded like he was dying. When I got ready to pull my hands away, his hands grabbed my wrists.

He pulled me closer to him and murmured, "Thank the universe for nosy angels."

I yanked my hands away from him. "Idiot! I came to make sure you're okay and this is the thanks?"

His hands fell away to his side and his breathing was still labored. "Eve, I need you."

"No, you officially need a doctor."

"No, no time."

"Adam, I don't know what's going on, but you need a doctor and then we have to find Lily."

"I need you to trust me, Eve."

I didn't know why but I tried to pull his shirt together. It was useless, there was no rhyme or reason to what I was trying to do. "Trust you? Adam, I think you need way more than trust, you're bleeding."

He held out his bleeding hand. "Trust me, Eve. Help me."

Toni Edge is a former juvenile delinquent and honorary member of the truancy club. Now, she likes to teach teens who remind her of herself. She also likes to read everything, a habit she picked up during her truancy days. For all the rest of her free time she likes to write young adult paranormal/science fiction stories that would have made her teen years so much clearer, if the stories had been true.
