Book Description:

Kaylie Snow has always been the fun, flirty, pretty sister. Now her burgeoning baby bump, hormone-infused emotions, and faltering singing career are sending her into an unexpected identity crisis. Watching her older sister, Danica, glide through a major career change and a new relationship with the grace of a ballerina, Kaylie’s insecurities rise to the forefront—and her relationship with fiancé Chaz Crew is caught in the crossfire.

Chaz Crew has everything he’s ever wanted: a lovely fiancée, a baby on the way, and soon, the film festival he owns will host its biggest event ever. When he’s called away to woo the festival’s largest sponsor—and the lover he’s never admitted to having—secrets from his past turn his new life upside down.

With her baby shower around the corner and her fiancé’s big event looming, the pressure is on for Kaylie to pull herself together—and for Chaz to right his wrongs. In a few short weeks, the couple who had it all figured out will learn things about life and love that may change their minds—and their hearts.

SISTERS IN BLOOM is a testament to the bond of sisters, the strength of women, and the pains and delights that accompany motherhood. A book for every mother, sister, and daughter, SISTERS IN BLOOM will resonate with readers who love to explore family dramas.

My Review

Two very different sisters and the men they fall in love with take center stage in Sisters in Bloom, a contemporary romance by Melissa Foster.  Well developed characters, lively dialogue and plenty of emotional angst kept me turning the pages to discover what was going to happen next.  While this is the second book in the Snow Sisters series, I was able to read and enjoy this book on its own.

Only weeks from giving birth, Kaylie Snow considers herself a hot mess.  Suffering from raging hormones, a career suddenly going through a slow spot and beginning to doubt her own looks, she’s beginning to have doubts about everything in her life; even her relationship with her fiancée Chaz.

Chaz Crew has everything he’s ever wanted; the woman he loves, a baby on the way and an upcoming film festival guaranteed to be a success.  He just has to make it through his fiancées emotional outbursts and deal with a demanding sponsor, and former lover, who doesn’t want to remain a part of the “past”.

The scenes between Kaylie and Chaz are lively and full of emotional angst.  While they are definitely in love, they both have issues from their pasts they need to resolve before they’ll be able to be happy with themselves and their future.  Ms. Foster does a good job handling all of the drama her characters undergo from start to finish.  While Kaylie is fairly secure about her good looks, she underestimates her intelligence and her dependability.

Even though Chaz has always been honest with Kaylie, he has kept a secret from his past.  It involves a short term relationship he had with a woman who’s also one of the sponsors of his film festival.  Trying to save his relationship with Kaylie, Chaz will be forced to face just what is it about his previous relationship that has left him feeling so alarmed.

Ms. Foster also does a good job developing the secondary characters in this book.  We get to see Danica, Kaylie’s older sister, dealing with her own romance and having to make a decision about putting the happiness of others before her own.  We also get to see Blake, Danica’s boyfriend, who wants more than just a temporary fling and that it’s okay to put their relationship first.  We meet Kaylie and Danica’s mom, who’s reinvented herself after her divorce and who helps both of her daughters let go of their fears.

Will Kaylie and Chaz be able to survive all of the emotional ups and downs their relationship is going through?  Will Danica learn its okay to grab onto happiness for herself?  You’ll have to read Sisters in Bloom to find out.  I thought it was enjoyable and plan to read Sisters in Love (the first book in the series) to see what I missed.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 Crowns
