Review - The Spellcaster's Grimoire by Mark All

ABOUT THE SPELLCASTER’S GRIMOIRE

Bestselling witchcraft author Trish Sinclair has a shameful secret: she’s a lousy spellcaster, and the spells in her books belong to others. So when a dying warlock entrusts her with an ancient and powerful grimoire, she runs for her life from his murderer, psychotic witch Kate Cavanaugh. Kate pursues Trish relentlessly to obtain the grimoire, which holds spells to command the fearsome power of a magic crystal hidden in town—and Kate is determined to have that power.

When the town coven refuses to help Trish protect the grimoire, she is forced to turn to cynical warlock Aidan McCarthy, who has a secret agenda of his own, and Rain Devereaux, a novice witch whose spellcasting abilities are even worse than Trish’s. As Kate unleashes the elemental might of tornadoes and ice storms on the trio, they desperately struggle to defeat her.

But Kate is too powerful, and she manages to steal the grimoire and unearth the crystal. Trish knows Kate will use the stone’s power to exact her deadly revenge on Aidan and the town coven unless Trish can manifest her latent magical abilities to save them.

My Review

"Double, double, toil and trouble" was never more true than when a witch, accidentally reveals the existence of a powerful grimoire.  Filled with interesting characters, an evil villain and a light romance, Mark All’s The Spellcaster’s Grimoire kept me turning the pages to discover what was going to happen next in the battle between good and evil.  Set in a magical town in the South, this paranormal tale is sure to please any reader who likes to read about witches.

A "recreational" writer, Trish Sinclair is a member of the local witch's coven in Maynard, Georgia, a town built around a magical crystal.  Friends with the head warlock in town, Trish makes her living writing books incorporating trivial spells and local legend into her "how to witchcraft" books.  When she includes a chapter about a "secret" grimoire the local coven safeguards, without getting coven leader Benton Moorcraft's permission first, Trish finds herself in the middle of a battle to save her town.

A former pupil of coven leader Benton Moorcraft, Aiden McCarthy, lives alone and has become the town drunk.  When Benton is murdered, and Trish approaches him for help, Aiden finds himself committed to keeping the town safe.  Even when it means he'll have to battle a witch he once thought he loved.

As Trish, Aiden and a new witch named Rain, find themselves battling to save the town on their own, they'll each have issues to face on their own.  Trish finds herself facing her lack of belief and lack of confidence in her own magical abilities.  Aiden has to battle his memories of the past and face the consequences of the decisions he's made, and Rain will have to learn she's not as strong magically as she thinks she is.

Mr. All does a good job developing the characters and  giving us insight into their issues.  The secondary characters, some of the other witches in town, have issues of their own, some due to age, and leave Trish, Aiden and Rain to do battle on their own.  The villain, Kate Cavanaugh, a very powerful witch, is somewhat psychotic and has her own ties to the town.

Will Trish, Aiden and Rain be able to keep the grimoire hidden and out of Kate's hands?  What will happen if the wrong witch gets their hands on the power of the powerful crystal hidden in town?  You'll have to read The Spellcaster's Grimoire to find out.  I enjoyed it and hope we'll get to see these characters again.
