Book Description:

Samuel Davenport runs his family's New York based advertising agency. His brother, Adam, runs from responsibility and anything remotely boring. And his temp, Haley, runs so she'll never be caught and hurt again. She moved to the city New Year's Day to hide and recover, to build a new life far from her past. In an effort to lie low, Haley never expects to be more than a temp. What begins for Sam as an excuse to get to know her better, ends up being an opportunity for advancement and excitement for Haley. When Sam tries to uncover all of Haley's mysteries, he exposes her hiding place, endangers her life, and threatens to destroy any chance of them ever having a future together.

My Review

People hide who they are for a variety of reasons; sometimes it's to escape a painful past, other times it's to escape a vengeful or abusive ex-husband or wife, and other times it's for self preservation and safety.  In Nicole Andrews Moore's Hiding Out, both the hero and heroine are "hiding" for a combination of reasons.  Excellent character development, good dialogue, an intriguing mystery and good pacing make Hiding Out a captivating read.  I easily found myself turning the pages to discover what happened to bring these characters to where they are now and what would happen as the mystery unfolds and a romance develops between the two main characters.

Hiding who she really is, Hayley Iverson works as a temporary assistant for Samuel Davenport, the owner of a successful New York advertising agency.  Determined never to be hurt again, Hayley has not only changed her appearance and name; she's changed who she is.  Still trying to recover from her experiences, she still suffers from  nightmares and has trouble trusting anyone.  Keeping mostly to herself, Hayley ran for her life and is more than willing to run again if she needs to.

A successful businessman, Samuel "Sam" Davenport is used to getting his way.  He's also used to women falling all over themselves to get close to him, not because they really want him but because they want his money, power and social position.  Hiring a temp to replace his assistant while she's out on maternity leave is just business, discovering she's both intelligent and attractive is a bonus.  Realizing he's falling for her is a surprise.

The scenes between Hayley and Sam are well written and have plenty of emotional and physical chemistry.  Both attractive and smart people, Hayley and Sam slowly find themselves comfortable and challenged by each other.  When Samuel realizes how badly Hayley's been hurt in the past, he's determined to discover who hurt her and why. He wants to protect and cherish her.  Ms. Moore does an excellent job developing Sam, Hayley and the secondary characters in this book.  I was rooting for Hayley and Sam's romance and hoping they would be able to make things between them work.

I also liked getting to know Ellen, Sam's personal assistant, who's one of Hayley's real friends and I also enjoyed getting to meet Adam, Samuel's younger brother.  While Adam doesn't like working for the family business, he definitely played a big part in his brother's life and in pushing Sam towards a real relationship.  The villains who wronged Hayley were developed well enough that I wanted to them get the justice they deserved!

Will Hayley's trust in Sam pay off or will his discovery of her past place her life in more danger?  Will their romance be something that lasts forever?  You'll have to read Hiding Out to find out.  I enjoyed it and I look forward to reading more of Ms. Moore's work.

My Rating:  4.5 out of 5 Crowns
